PWG admits role in AP railway station blast

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

The outlawed People's War Group has admitted that two of the three persons killed in the explosions at the Eluru railway station late on Tuesday night were its cadres.

PWG Guntur district committee secretary Mohan, in a terse statement sent to local newspapers, said the duo -- Vijayabhaskar alias Ramana, Kurnool district central organiser and Sagar, Guntur dalam member -- had alighted from the Falaknuma Express and were transferring the explosives for party use, when the explosion took place accidentally.

The PWG statement pointed out that both Vijayabhaskar and Rama were dedicated cadres of the party and discharged the responsibilities entrusted to them by the organisation effectively.

The PWG termed the death of the duo as a loss to the organisation. The PWG also regretted the death of a passenger and injuries to three others in the incident and conveyed condolences to the members of the bereaved families.

The police, investigating the two explosions at the Eluru Railway station when the Howrah-bound Falaknuma Express train was ready to leave on its onward journey, have identified the third person as Gade Rambabu, a businessman and native of Eluru.

The police had suspected the role of the PWG in the incident, following the recovery of a hand grenade, two country-made 9-mm pistols and three cell phones, besides Rs 63,000 in cash, from the spot.
