Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami on Saturday said the government has no information about the release of gangster Abu Salem by the United Arab Emirates government.
The Times of India newspaper carried a report on Saturday saying that the UAE government has let Salem off after the Indian government's failure to provide any proof of his identity.
"We have no such information," Swami told rediff.com from his residence in Karnal on phone.
Top Delhi police officers refused to comment on the Times story.
Senior CBI officials could not be contacted and officers heading the Interpol division refused to come on line.
CBI sources said its Interpol division has given all relevant documents to the UAE government.
"We have given them all necessary documents not only about Abu Salem but also about Dawood Ibrahim and his henchman Chhota Shakil," a CBI official said.
