Gen Chahal has led a mountain brigade in the insurgency-affected northeastern region and an infantry division along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir.
He also held instructional assignments at the Indian Military Academy and the Defence Services Staff College.
Both generals are highly decorated, with Gen Sihota having received awards for gallantry and distinguished service like the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Vir Chakra. Gen Chahal is a recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
