TDP mandal president shot dead by
Naxalites in Andhra Pradesh

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

A ruling Telugu Desam Party mandal parishad (local self-government body) president was shot dead by the outlawed People's War Group of Naxalites in Warangal district on Monday.

State police spokesman Shujath Ali said the incident occurred around 1200 hours (IST).

Mandal parishad president Medi Ramulu was proceeding from his native village Dharmaraopet to Khanapur town on a motorcycle when the Naxalites waylaid him and shot at him from point blank range.

He died on the spot.

The 45-year-old Ramulu was an ex-militant and a member of the Janasakthi faction of the Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML) before he joined the TDP.
