The outlawed People's War Group of Naxalites blasted a milk processing unit of Heritage Foods Limited, a company owned by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's family, at Pileru in Chittoor district late on Thursday night.
According to the state police officials, the incident occurred around 10.30 pm IST, when a group of armed Naxalites, numbering six to 10, came to the milk processing plant at Pileru in the chief minister's home district and asked the staff of the unit to come out.
Later, they blasted the plant with gelatine sticks. A major portion of the plant collapsed under the impact of the explosion. The damage was yet to be assessed.
It was one of the 17 chilling plants owned by Heritage Foods, founded by Chandrababu Naidu and presently owned by his family.
It was the first unit to be established in 1993 at an outlay of Rs 7.5 million.
Chandrababu Naidu's wife, Bhuvaneshwari, is the executive director of Heritage Foods.
Soon after the incident, the police sounded a red alert in Chittoor and neighbouring districts.
Chittoor District Superintendent of Police P Ram Narayan rushed to the spot and later launched combing operations in the adjoining forest area.
