Troops recover over 500 kg of RDX, three killed in J&K

In a major recovery, army troops seized 512 kg of RDX, and a huge cache of arms and ammunition from an abandoned militant hideout, while elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir, a sarpanch was among three persons killed and two wounded in militancy-related incidents since Tuesday evening, an official spokesman said on Wednesday.

He said following intensified patrolling on the borders, militants left behind over 512 kg of RDX besides arms and ammunition in a hideout at Darsun jungle in Kupwara district.

The recovery included 39 rifle grenades, 7 detonators, 14 IED fuses, two AK rifles, 107 mm rockets, nine Rocket Projectile Guns.

In Jammu, two people were killed when an improvised explosive device exploded in sarpanch Brij Mohan Sharma's shop in Budhan village in Udhampur district on Tuesday, a police spokesman said, adding Sharma and a customer died on the spot.

A militant was killed when joint troops of army and police retaliated on being attacked by militants at Monda Qazigund in Anantnag district last night, the official spokesman said.

Militants shot at and critically wounded a shopkeeper at Babapora-Kralkhud in Srinagar on Wednesday morning, he said, adding a teacher was also shot at and injured in Budgam district last evening.
