Elections to Maharashtra municipal corporations on Feb 10

Elections to the municipal corporations of Greater Bombay, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Nasik, Amravati, Nagpur and Akola would be held on February 10, 2002, Maharashtra Election Commissioner Yashwant Rajwade announced on Thursday.

The municipal commissioners of respective corporations would declare election programmes in gazettes or local newspapers, an official release quoting Rajawade said.

Application forms would be distributed from January 4 to January 9, it said, adding the forms would be scrutinised on January 11 and a list of valid candidates would be declared.

The last date for withdrawal of nomination is January 14, the release said.

Symbols for the elections would be distributed on January 15 and the names of the candidates contesting the municipal elections would be announced on January 16 through government gazettes.

Counting of votes and the results would be announced on February 11, the release said, and added that the code of conduct would be implemented in the respective areas of municipal corporations from January.
