Onkar Singh in New Delhi
After inducting two pracharaks as chief ministers of Gujarat and Uttaranchal in last few weeks, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh is now toying with the idea of replacing the chief minister of Jharkhand, Babulal Marandi, with one of its own man.
A top functionary of the RSS in New Delhi disclosed this to rediff.com on Monday.
"RSS has two options -- either allow discredited chief ministers to continue or to change them with its own men of proven integrity. Narendra Modi and Bhagat Singh Koshiari were RSS men who we felt could deliver the results, and hence the two were sent to Gujarat and Uttaranchal as chief ministers," a senior RSS functionary said.
"When Babulal Marandi was chosen as the state chief minister, it was argued that we needed a tribal. But what we need more then anything else is a good administrator and it really does not matter whether the new chief minister is a tribal or not," the functionary added.
Marandi's inability of handle the law and order situation is one of the main reasons why he would have to be replaced, he said.
"Barely a month after he took over on December 15 Maoist Communist Centre killed four persons and set the house of the former chief minister of Bihar on fire. In last few weeks MCC has killed more then 40 people, including 13 policemen in the state. Marandi has also not been able to control the coal mafia. This will not do and that is why Marandi would have to go," he said.
