Congress functionary killed in AP

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

A Congress mandal parishad president was killed by Telugu Desam Party rivals in Anantapur district on Friday night.

The incident took place in Tadipatri assembly segment. Peddapappur mandal parishad president Chalapathi, 38, was hacked to death at his native village Amalladinne Kothapalle by his rivals when he was on his way home after calling on a friend at 7.30 pm.

Condemning the murder, Congress legislature party deputy floor leader D Srinivas told rediff.com on Saturday afternoon that the killing was part of the ruling TDP's conspiracy to eliminate local Congress functionaries.

He claimed that the victim was not involved in factional violence but faced threats from his TDP rivals.
