The Army and paramilitary forces were withdrawn from some coastal areas of Gujarat as the cyclonic storm, raging in the Arabian Sea for a week now, petered out into a depression and lay 50 km west-south off Porbandar on Tuesday triggering torrential rains.
Rains accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed coastal parts of the state in the morning as the cyclone changed its course and moved towards Jakhau.
There was no reports of damage to property or life from anywhere, senior revenue department officials said.
However, Army has been kept as stand-by in Jamnagar, Bhuj and Junagadh districts as a precautionary measure and relief teams are still stationed in Chorwad, Kandla, Nalia, Mandvi and Anjar, Revenue Minister Vajubhai Vala said.
Bhuj in water-starved Kutch district recorded 50 mm rainfall followed by Nakhatrana (9 mm) and Anjar (2 mm).
In Saurashtra region, Kodinar received 19 mm rain followed by Naliya (5 mm), Veraval (2.2 mm), Una (3 mm) and Jamnagar city (1 mm).
