Police expose underworld, militant nexus

The Delhi police has arrested three persons and recovered huge quantity of explosives, foiling an attempt by Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence to set off explosions and eliminate certain persons in Bombay and Delhi through a nexus between the underworld and militants.

Acting on specific information, sleuths of the Delhi Police special cell arrested Gurvinder Jit Singh Bhullar of the Chhota Shakeel gang, Mohammad Azgar of the Jammu-Kashmir Islamic Front and Abdul Jabbar from the parking lot of Gurudwara Rakab Ganj in Delhi late on Monday night, police said.

Their arrest revealed a nexus between the underworld and the militants, the sources said adding two kgs of PETN explosive and two detonators were recovered from them.

Police said Azgar had handed over to Bhullar a consignment of explosives, which were to be taken to Bombay for carrying out blasts.

Bhullar had also been asked to recruit some people in Punjab to target leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena and Bajrang Dal both in Punjab as well as in the national capital.
