The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government of compromising with national security.
"The BJP is compromising with national security to run its coalition government, which is a dangerous signal," VHP vice-president Giriraj Kishore said in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
This is the first time a leading Sangh Parivar member like the VHP has attacked the BJP on national security.
Kishore said the government had also failed to control Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence or the activities of Christian missionaries.
He criticised the likely extension of the ceasefire in Kashmir, citing it as an example of compromising with national security. No other country had ever announced a truce with terrorists. "The likely extension of the ceasefire is a clear indication of this government's lack of confidence," he remarked.
Kishore warned that the VHP would not allow this to continue. "The VHP will not allow the country's security to be threatened, whether this government remains in power or not," he said.
Kishore said the ISI and Christian organisations were trying to create disturbances all over the country. Recent bomb blasts in the heart of Delhi, including near Sena Bhawan and South Block, indicate that the BJP-led government has failed to control the ISI, he said. "In the last three years 35,000 people, including 5,000 military personnel, have been killed in the ISI-sponsored insurgency in Kashmir," he pointed out.
Kishore demanded that the government bring out a white paper based on the inquiry into the activities of Christian missionaries in the Northeast four years ago. He said that in 1996, Union Minister of State for Home Mohammed Maqbool Dar had admitted that the Centre was aware of the illegal activities of Christian groups in the Northeast. "The government had then said the matter was being investigated," he said.
The VHP leader said Christian organisations are getting funds from abroad and channelising them to terrorist groups for anti-national activities.
He demanded a total ban on conversions by Christian missionaries. "We don't want that anybody should convert the tribals," he said.
He insisted that construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya would begin next year.
