AIIMS employees threaten strike

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences employees in Delhi on Friday served a two-day ultimatum to the authorities to reinstate a suspended colleague by Monday, failing which they would go on an indefinite strike.

"Negotiations with AIIMS authorities have failed. But we are giving them two days' time to act and if nothing happens, we will be forced to go on an indefinite strike from Monday," President of AIIMS Karamchari Union S P Kalia told PTI.

Group C and D employees of AIIMS went on a flash strike on May 16 to protest the suspension of their colleague who allegedly assaulted a doctor on May 8.

Kalia said the suspended employee should be reinstated as he was not the only one at fault. "If action has to be taken, then it should be taken against the doctor too for provoking the employee."

Meanwhile, Resident Doctors Association president Neeraj Bharadwaj said if the administration revoked the suspension, the RDA would "retaliate", adding that they were already too lenient with the employee as they had neither demanded his termination nor filed a police case.
