Advani, Jaswant to visit Srinagar

Sources in the home ministry Monday said that K C Pant, the Centre's interlocutor, is also scheduled to visit the valley a few days after their visit.

Pant said he had received an invitation from Kashmiri leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister G M Shah to visit the valley and he had accepted the invitation.

He would visit the valley ''shortly'', the sources said.

The day-long visit by Advani and Singh assumes significance as the Centre's ceasefire, announced in November 2000 and later extended, expires on May 31. The sources, however, did not say whether the ceasefire would be extended.

''The chief minister (of Jammu and Kashmir) had been suggesting for long that both should visit Srinagar,'' the sources added.

They may also attend the unified headquarters meeting in Srinagar.
