Arrest warrants against Laloo, Mishra in fodder scam

A special court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against former Bihar chief ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra, besides 174 others after taking cognisance of a chargesheet submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a fodder scam case.

Designated CBI Judge, Ranchi, A B Sekhar, took cognisance of the chargesheet submitted by the CBI at 0740 hrs and issued non-bailable arrest warrants against 176 accused.

The state governor examined the papers for 18 days after the CBI made a formal request in March this year, before according sanction for prosecution of Laloo and Mishra in a conspiracy angle case.

The case relates to fraudulent withdrawals of Rs 1,820 million from the Doranda treasury in Ranchi by the Animal Husbandry Department through forged allotment letters.

The withdrawals from the Doranda treasury took place between 1991 and 1996 when Laloo was the chief minister of undivided Bihar.
