Coimbatore bomb blasts accused arrested in Bihar

A couple, wanted in connection with the recovery of a huge cache of arms in Madras in 1998, in the aftermath of the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts, was arrested in Bihar recently. The duo was brought to Madras on Friday.

A release from the Additional Director General of Police, Crime (SIT), CB-CID, said Ayesha and Ibrahim Gani were arrested in Bettiya district of Bihar, where they were living under 'assumed names.'

A large number of improvised explosive devices, explosive substances, bomb-making material, revolvers and knives were seized from different places in Madras in March 1998, soon after the Coimbatore serial bomb blasts.

A consolidated single charge sheet was filed by the SIT, clubbing three other cases which were part of the same conspiracy, against a total of 24 accused, 22 of whom had already been arrested. Only Ayesha and Ibrahim were absconding.
