Governor gives CBI nod to
prosecute Laloo, Mishra

Bihar Governor Vinod Chandra Pande has given his nod to the Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute former chief ministers Laloo Prasad Yadav and Jagannath Mishra, former animal husbandry ministers Chandradeo Prasad Verma and Vidyasagar Nishad and four IAS officers in the fodder scam case RC-47A/96.

The case involves fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 182 crore from the Doranda (Ranchi) treasury by the 'animal husbandry mafia' between 1991 and 1996. Thus, it involves maximum amount of money in any animal husbandry scam case.

On March 11 last, the CBI had sought the governor's sanction.

One hundred and seventy-six persons, including former chairmen of the Public Accounts Committee of the state assembly, Independent legislator Jagdish Sharma and former Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Dhurv Bhagat are likely to be chargesheeted.

Others who figure are Congress parliamentarian Rajo Singh and Rashtriya Janata Dal legislator R K Rana and 80 suppliers.

The CBI is awaiting sanction from Jharkhand Governor Prabhat Kumar, to prosecute former animal husbandry scam secretary Beck Julius, who moved over to the Jharkhand cadre after creation of the state.

The Bihar governor's sanction came with dissidence in the RJD at its peak.
