Krishnamurthy suggests code of ethics for BJP leaders

BJP President K Jana Krishnamurthy on Thursday suggested that there should be a code of ethics for the party's elected representatives so that their image can be above board.

"The proposed code of ethics should cover even the prime minister, who anyway was under the purview of the Lok Pal Bill."

Addressing reporters for the first time after he took over as the party chief, Krishnamurthy stated that there was no need for his predecessor Bangaru Laxman to resign from the Rajya Sabha.

"The Justice Venkatswami probe is on and if and when Laxman is found guilty, the BJP will not hesitate to take strong action. But till then the question of expelling him from the party does not arise," he said.

On the BJP's alliance with the Trinamul Congress in West Bengal, Krishnamurthy pointed out that the BJP would wait for Trinamul chief's Mamata Banerjee's response.

"Although Mamata is talking to the Congress, the BJP's doors are still open and we will wait for her response," he added.

To another question, Krishnamurthy admitted that the party had not been able to bring the religious minorities as close as it would have liked.
