UDF's seat sharing talks inconclusive

The discussion on seat sharing for the coming assembly elections in Kerala among the various constituents of Congress-led opposition United Democratic Front remained inconclusive on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters after the UDF high-power committee meeting, front convener K Sankaranarayanan said talks were nearing completion but a final picture would emerge in a day or two.

Though he claimed that there was perfect understanding between the partners, UDF sources said the current impasse was due to tussle between groups in the Kerala Congress over some constituencies.

The claims of JSS led by K R Gouri and CMP led by M V Raghavan also figured in Tuesday's parleys, Sankaranarayanan said, adding the bilateral talks among the constituents would continue.

When pointed out that the ruling CPI-M and its allies had already come out with their list of candidates, he said 'there is no point in showing haste since we have enough time as the election notification has not yet come'.

Referring to the CPI-M decision to leave out Chief Minister E K Nayanar and five of his cabinet colleagues from the candidates list, the UDF convener said it was for the first time in the history of CPI-M that the party was openly admitting that these people were unfit to rule.

The UDF does not need any more endorsement than this to face the election, he added.
