US concerned about Pakistan's support to Taleban

Pakistan's continued support to Afghanistan's ruling Taleban allowing the militia to harbour terrorists is a cause of concern for the United States, Bill Clinton said in his 'strategy' presented to the Congress just before leaving the President's office.

"The United States remains concerned about those countries, including Pakistan, that support the Taleban," Clinton said in his "National Security Strategy for a Global Age".

"We are engaged in energetic diplomatic efforts, including through the United Nations and with Russia and other concerned countries, to address these countries on an urgent basis," he said.

He said Afghanistan remains a serious threat to the US worldwide interests because of the Taleban's continued sheltering of international terrorist Osama bin Laden, and its increasing export of illicit drugs.

"Afghanistan remains the primary safe haven for terrorists threatening the US. The UN and the US have levied sanctions against the Taleban for harbouring Laden and other terrorists, and will continue to pressure the Taliban until it complies to bring the terrorist mastermind to justice," the former US president said.
