A day after apologising to Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, R K Jain, a key figure in the Tehelka expose, on Wednesday sent a letter of regret to the former railway minister and Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for his statements in the secret videotapes.
"I now realise my folly... I was deeply shocked to see the casual conversation becoming public. All the statements against you and others made by me are false and incorrect and I had no intention to defame or hurt you or anybody else," the letter said.
Trinamul Congress general secretary, Mukul Roy, confirmed receipt of the letter from Jain, a former Samata Party functionary.
Stating that he had received a legal notice from Mamata, Jain in the letter said: "I would like to add that I have never met you, nor do I know you in person. I do not have any access to you in anyway, leave apart getting any work done from you. Now I have realised that my uncalled for, unsubstantiated and untrue claims have caused great injury to your reputation."
Jain said he would also arrange to publish an apology in a few leading dailies.
