Advani says he is not in the
race for prime ministership

Union Home Minister L K Advani on Wednesday said he was not in the race for prime ministership and that there was no reason why he should be.

"Vajpayeeji raaj karen, acchi tareh raaj karen aur pura samay karen (Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee should rule well and complete the term)," he told Aaj Tak in an interview.

He said certain quarters had raised the question of succession when Vajpayee was afflicted by a knee problem. "Now he is hail and hearty and the question has stopped cropping up."

Replying to questions whether he could be a successor to Vajpayee, Advani said: "I pray to God that this question does not come up. I am not in the race for prime ministership and there is no reason for it."

He said there were no differences between him and the prime minister on the issue of Ram Temple or the handling of the Kashmir situation.
