Pakistan test-fires Anza missile

The Pakistan Air Force has test-fired its "indigenous" surface-to-air Anza missile along with several other missiles, including those of American and French origin during an exercise aimed at enhancing its combat preparedness, a media report said on Tuesday.

Anza, a shoulder-launched missile weighing about 10 kg, and other surface-to-surface and air-to-air missiles were test-fired at the Sonmiani firing range in Baluchistan.

Military ruler Gen Pervez Musharraf and top military officials witnessed the missile firing show held on the concluding day of the week-long Missile Firing Camp 2001.

The air-to-air missiles fired by fighter planes, included French-origin infra-red R-550 MAGIC, AIM-P (Sidewinder) and a US-origin heat-seeking AIM9-L.

The missiles were fired at Star Shells (flying objects) to make the exercise more realistic.

The air force also test-dropped the Snake Eye MK-82, Durandal Runway Penetration and General Purpose bombs besides the 68 MM rockets, The Nation daily reported.
