Chidambaram suspended from TMC

Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram and three of his supporters were Thursday suspended from the Tamil Maanila Congress for 'anti-party' activities after his "open revolt" against the alliance with the AIADMK, party vice-president A R Marimuthu disclosed.

The action comes in the wake of the TMC executive committee recommending to the party's disciplinary action committee to take action against the former Union minister for his "open revolt" against the alliance with the AIADMK.

Marimuthu, who is also DAC in-charge, said the committee had examined the material placed before it by the party and it was satisfied that there was a prima facie case for suspension due to the four members 'anti-party' activity.

He said show-cause notices would be issued to the four suspended leaders by evening, demanding that they reply within three days.

Besides Chidambaram, those suspended included B Ranganathan, MLA, A Sundaram, MLA and Kasilingam, the party's Sivaganga district president, he said.

On Wednesday, while inaugurating an office for the TMC Democratic Forum, Chidambaram had said neither he nor his supporters could be expelled from the party.
