Six injured in clashes in Ahmedabad

Six people were injured in clashes between two groups belonging to two communities in Ahmedabad late on Sunday night with police firing six rounds and lobbing 175 teargas shells to disperse stone-pelting mobs, police said on Monday.

Two persons were injured in the firing and four in stone-throwing incidents in Manekchowk area, police said adding seven persons were rounded up in connection with the disturbances.

The clashes were a sequel to an altercation amongst some people over parking space for their respective vehicles.

Police resorted to firing to disperse the mobs after bursting of teargas shells did not have any effect.

Thereafter, many communally-sensitive areas like Kalupur, Dariapur and Shahpur in the walled city were gripped by tension.

Though some areas were still tense, there was no report of any untoward incident on Monday from any part of the city, police added.
