Afghan refugees burn Pakistani flags
protesting Bamiyan destruction

The protestors, under the banner of the Association of Afghan Refugees in India, said that by destroying the Bamiyan Buddhas, the 'vandal Taleban militia' was 'pursuing the agenda of Pakistan's ISI'.

The agitated demonstrators tore the green crescent and star Pakistani flag and burnt its pieces shouting anti-Islamabad and anti-Pervez Musharraf slogans.

"The ISI is using Taleban as a pawn to destroy the historical and cultural heritage of Afghanistan, which till now followed the principle of Quran - Lakum denukkum wali ya din (You follow your religion, let them follow theirs)," said Habib Mustapha, leader of the group.

The destruction of the statues went against the principles of Islam enshrined in the Holy Quran, he added.

"The reputation of the entire Afghan community has been tarnished, though it was the Taleban, 'dominated by Pakistani ISI agents', who were the perpetuators of this outrageous act," Afghan scholar Qari Obidullah said.

The demonstrators also raised slogans against Afghan foreign Minister Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil.
