Commenting on Taleban spokesman Sayeed Rahamatullah Hashmi's remarks that the Buddha statues in Bamiyan were being destroyed in retaliation to the demolition of the Babri masjid, Joshi said, "This is an attempt to give a logical explanation for an act of religious frenzy."
He said the statues were built by people of Afghan origin and not installed by any invader.
There was a lot of difference between the two incidents as the Taleban's action has been criticised worldwide while even Islamic nations had not said anything on the Ayodhya issue, Joshi said.
Home Minister L K Advani said the destruction of these statues was 'barbaric' and it has no parallel in world history.
Advani said if Taleban did not want to keep these statues of historical importance in their country, India is ready to bring them here.
He said, "Afghanistan is moving on the path of religious intolerance, which is dangerous for the whole world."
