There are about 20 exit points on the border, including those in Siliguri (West Bengal), Purnea (Bihar) and the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh.
A close watch is being kept by the central paramilitary forces in this area, with in-depth monitoring of vehicles and people crossing over into India, home ministry sources said, adding that the border could be more vulnerable at this time of crisis.
The sources said Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence had set up logistical facilities to support anti-India elements.
Besides militants, the border is known to be used by smugglers and criminal syndicates for infiltration and smuggling of drugs, fake currency and arms and ammunition.
Meanwhile, life was slowly returning to normal in Kathmandu and in neighbouring Lalitpur following two successive days of street violence on Monday and Tuesday.
Shops have begun reopening -- though in lesser numbers -- and people were going about their daily routine.
In New Road area, Kathmandu's commercial district, most shops reopened following closure for almost five days. There also was more traffic on the streets than Wednesday.
However, tension prevailed with most people fearing more disturbances.
