Nepal King Gyanendra Wednesday announced the terms of reference and powers of the inquiry commission that he had formed to investigate the Royal Palace massacre last Friday night, an announcement said.
The commission has been given sweeping powers to inspect the venue of the shooting, interview doctors, hostesses, survivors, any others and conduct ballistic tests, a palace announcement said.
The commission, headed by Chief Justice Keshab Prasad Upadhaya, was empowered to probe "the sad incident and present real facts".
Observers said that it would for the first time that the royal family and records of the palace are being examined.
The commission, which includes the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Taranath Ranabhatt, has again been given three days to present its finding, after beginning work.
The king also accepted the resignation of leader of the opposition in Parliament, Madav Nepal, from the probe panel.
It was not known if Nepal was replaced by another colleague.
