Pak ready to discuss other issues

K J M Varma in Islamabad

Pakistan on Monday night said it was willing to discuss other issues, although the focus of the Indo-Pak summit would be on Kashmir.

It also announced that a small delegation will accompany President General Pervez Musharraf to India, leaving out the interior and commerce ministers.

Announcing the composition of the delegation Pakistan Information Secretary Anwar Mahmood said the results of the upcoming Agra summit should not be prejudged.

"Pakistan's position is obvious and we cannot prejudge the talks," he said.

"The focus of the Pakistan-India summit would be on Kashmir, but Pakistan would be willing to discuss other issues as well," he added.

The delegation would comprise Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar, Foreign Secretary Inamul Haq and senior government officials, Mahmood said.

This means Musharraf has dropped his previous idea of holding comprehensive discussions on a host of issues including trade and cross-border terrorism besides Kashmir.

Significantly, the Indian envoy to Islamabad Vijay K Nambiar had met both the commerce and the interior ministers after the summit was announced.
