A 25-year-old woman and her two-year-old son were brought out alive Tuesday from under the rubble of their apartment here 100 hours after they were buried by the earthquake.

As rescue operations continued at various sites, Neelimaben and her son Keyur were taken out alive from the debris of Viswakunj Apartment in the worst-hit Maninagar area, the city corporation's deputy commissioner Umesh Padia said.

They were admitted to hospital where their condition was stable, he added.

He said the rescuers have so far brought out 111 people, including men, women and children, alive from underneath the debris of collapsed buildings. However, the army in a press release said 132 people have been brought out alive.

Padia said rescue operations were continuing at 40 sites where 45 people were still believed to be buried.

He, however, said there was not much hope of finding anymore survivors.

Depending on the situation, the rescue operation in the city was likely to be called off Wednesday.

Meanwhile, rescuers have so far have recovered 728 bodies from the collapsed buildings' ruins.

About 13 buildings had been completely destroyed while 40 suffered partial damage, he said.
