Bharat Shah, Rizvi in police custody till Feb 1

Film financier Bharat Shah and producer Nasim Rizvi, facing charge of nexus with the underworld to target Bollywood personalities for personal gains, were on Monday remanded to police custody till February 1 by a special court, hearing cases under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act.

The court also adjourned Shah's bail petition until then to enable the prosecution file its say.

Rizvi's assistant, Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh, was remanded to judicial custody till February 5 by judge A P Bhangale.

The trio was produced for the first time together before the court. While Shah was already in police custody, Rizvi and Abdul Rahim have so far been in judicial custody.

For the first time, prosecution has sought to convert Rizvi's judicial remand to police remand as special public prosecutor Rohini Salian urged the court that the investigation machinery desired to confront him face to face with Shah in order to dig out the truth.

This was not possible earlier because Rizvi was already in judicial custody when Shah was arrested and remanded to police custody on January 8, she told the court.

Both Rizvi and Shah are involved in the making of film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, which is suspected to be financed by the underworld.
