Operations Resume at Kandla Port

Operations resumed on Sunday at Kandla, India's busiest port, Shipping Minister Arun Jaitley said. Five ships have already sailed from the port, while one has berthed.

A senior ministry official, however, said the port still faced communications and power problems.

At least half the buildings in Kandla city were damaged in Friday's quake and port operations were halted on Saturday.

Meanwhile, gold traders in Ahmedabad said the quake would have a negative impact on their business. Ahmedabad, Gujarat's largest city, is the main hub of Indian gold imports.

At the main hospital in Ahmedabad, nearly 600 people have already been reported dead.
