Pawan Chopra appointed new I&B secretary

Pawan Chopra, an additional secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, was Monday appointed the new information and broadcasting secretary while R R Shah, acting CEO of Prasar Bharati, is being kept on "compulsory wait" in the I&B ministry till his posting elsewhere.

Chopra, a 1967 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre, will succeed Y N Chaturvedi who retires on January 31, an official spokesman said.

Shah, a UP cadre IAS officer of 1967 batch and presently special secretary in ministry and executive member of Prasar Bharati, was being "kept on compulsory wait till his posting elsewhere," he said.

A Punjab cadre IAS officer of 1966 batch, A K Kundra, special secretary in the environment and forest ministry, has been appointed chairman of Tariffs Commission and ex-officio secretary to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion.

K Roy Paul, a 1967 Bihar cadre IAS officer, additional secretary in the environment and forest ministry, has been promoted as special secretary in the same ministry while D K Biswas, a West Bengal cadre IAS officer of 1967 batch, has also been elevated as special secretary from the rank of additional secretary in the social justice and empowerment ministry.
