Bajrang Dal to prevent cow slaughter during Bakr-Id

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Adding further fuel to the Ram temple-Babri masjid controversy, Bajrang Dal chief Dr Surendra Jain, on Thursday, announced that its activists would prevent cow slaughter 15 days before Bakr-Id as part of its campaign to construct the Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya.

Addressing a crowded press conference along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad vice-president Acharya Giriraj Kishore in the Bajrang Dal's North Avenue office, Dr Jain said, "Whatever is necessary to prevent cow slaughter, the Bajrang Dal and VHP will do."

Dr Jain said that Babar destroyed the temple in Ayodhya in 1528 to insult Hindus and the campaign for constructing the Ram temple reflected a 'national sentiment'.
