Five ultras, three tribals killed in Assam

At least five ultras were killed in separate encounters with security forces, while suspected Bodo militants gunned down three tribal women in Assam during the past 48 hours, official reports said.

Two hardcore National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants in Kokrajhar district, and an ULFA member each in Nalbari, Chabua and Dibrugarh were killed in encounters with security forces. One AK-56 rifle, an AK-47, two magazines, a nine-mm pistol and some ammunition were recovered from the slain extremists.

Meanwhile, suspected NDFB militants gunned down three women woodcutters at Lugchung forest near the Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district.

A group of 26 people, including women from tribal camps, had gone to the forest to collect firewood when militants opened fire on them.
