Vijayaraje's condition deteriorates

Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party politician Vijayaraje Scindia's condition deteriorated since Sunday with her liver and kidney functions slipping, New Delhi's Apollo Hospital said on Monday.

"All her vital organs have got affected. Her chances of recovery are very grim," doctors at the Apollo Hospital, where she was admitted on January 2, said.

"Her level of consciousness continues to be low. She is on supportive measures as before and all her systems are being closely monitored," director, medical services, B M Aiyanna said.

Doctors attending on the 81-year-old former Member of Parliament had told the United News of India on Sunday that she had shown signs of slipping back into coma.

But the functioning of her lung following Saturday's four-hour surgery for removal of a clot has steadied, they said.

Describing the condition of the erstwhile rajmata of the princely state of Gwalior as critical, the doctors said she was on life-support systems like ventilator, intravenous drips and medication.

Scindia was admitted in an unconscious state to the medical intensive care unit of Apollo Hospital with meningitis. Besides, she suffers from coronary artery disease, diabetes, myasthenia gravis and chronic renal insufficiency.
