ED interrogates film producer
Nazeem Rizvi again on Friday

Film producer Nazeem Rizvi, held on the charge of alleged nexus with the underworld, was on Friday interrogated for the third day in succession by the Enforcement Directorate.

He was produced before a special court on Friday morning and whisked away by ED officials who sought his custody for interrogating him on alleged hawala deals.

ED had sought his custody for interrogation on January 17 and 18. Officials informed the court that the probe was still incomplete and they would like to question him further.

Designated judge A P Bhangale, allowing the ED's plea, directed that Rizvi be taken away by directorate officials for questioning and brought back to the court in the evening for production of his regular judicial remand which expires on Friday.

Rizvi, producer of film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke was arrested on December 13 last after police alleged that the movie was financed by the underworld.

His assistant Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh was also arrested a week later. Both were remanded from time to time and now they are lodged in judicial custody.

In the same case, police arrested film financier Bharat Shah on January 8. Bombay high court rejected his bail on Thursday as he did not press for liberty.

Two other accused are absconding and the judge has allowed police to seize their properties to compel their presence before the court.

Police claim to have recorded telephonic conversations between Rizvi, Allah Baksh and Karachi-based gangster Chhota Shakeel. Shah also faces the allegation of speaking to Shakeel on telephone.

All the accused are held under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
