ISI agents held in Orissa had links with Bombay underworld

Imran Khan in Bhubaneswar

The Orissa police have established that the recently arrested ISI agents had links with the Bombay underworld. The police had arrested three ISI agents with fake notes in coastal Orissa on Monday and Tuesday.

Police sources said this has given a new twist to fake currency racket in the state. A police team is being sent to Bombay to investigate.

Kenderapara Suprintendent of Police Sanjay Singh told rediff.com that the three ISI admitted that they had obtained fake Rs 500 notes from Bombay-based Iqbal khan.

Khan used to visit the coastal villages of Kenderapara and Jagatsinghpur districts. Police sources said that Protosh Bera of Saniti village under Mahakaalapara was the kingpin behind the racket. He has been running it for the past five years with help from the ISI and the Bombay underworld.

Police seized fake currency notes and some incriminating documents from the arrested ISI agent.

A police official said the police also suspect the involvement of the arrested men in the robbery of two valuable remote cameras from the missile launching centre at Wheeler Island.
