Jitendra Prasada is dead

Jitendra PrasadaSenior Congress leader Jitendra Prasada died in New Delhi on Tuesday morning, eight days after suffering from a massive brain haemorrhage, sources at Apollo Hospital said.

Prasada, who was 62, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Prasada suffered a massive brain haemorrhage on the night of January 8 and was rushed to RML Hospital. He was shifted to the neuro-intensive care unit of Apollo hospital the next day in an unconscious condition.

There was no improvement in his condition since then and he continued to be on ventilatory support and intravenous drips till the last moment.

All along, doctors described the senior Congress leader's condition as ''grave'' and said that chances of recovery were bleak.

His close family members were by his side when the end came.

Senior Congress leaders also went to the hospital on hearing of his demise.

During his stay in hospital, several senior leaders, including President K R Narayanan and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, whom he had challenged recently in the party presidential polls, called on the ailing leader.
