The shootout occurred when a road opening party of the 15th Jat Regiment came across three to four persons planting improvised explosive devices near a microwave tower in Tamenglong district, the sources said.

The militants, who were laying the IEDs, fired at the patrol party and exploded the devices. The militants then escaped towards Irang river.

A number of IEDs were found at the site along with some pressure switches, the sources said.

In other incident, motorcycle-borne militants hurled a grenade at 11th Indian Reserve Battalion post at Yairipo, the sources said.

An exchange of fire took place between the militants and IRB personnel and the militants escaped after the encounter.

In another incident, militants attacked the Assam Rifles camp at Moreh in Chandel district, bordering Myanmar. Assam Rifles men retaliated and the encounter lasted 10 minutes.

Early on Tuesday, militants attacked a camp of the 12th Indian Reserve Battalion at Jiri in Imphal east, district bordering Assam. There was an encounter that lasted for about half an hour.
