MSU prof awarded Commander of the British Empire

Professor Dhruv Mistry (offg), Dean of the Fine Arts faculty of the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara has become the first Indian artist to receive the prestigious Commander of the most excellent order of the British Empire award by the Queen of England for excellent work in field of art.

Prof Mistry on Friday said he has received a message from the foreign and commonwealth office in London and quoted - 'Her majesty the queen has been pleased to appoint you to be honorary CBE. This honour is conferred on you by her majesty in recognition of the outstanding services, which you have rendered over many years to art'.

Prof Mistry, an alumni of MSU from the fine arts faculty went to the Royal College of Art in London for higher studies on a British Council Scholarship.

He is recognised in art circles, which includes the Lalit Kala Akademi and Modern Art Gallery in New Delhi, Tata Gallery, Arts Council, the British Council, National Museum of Wales, Victoria and Albert Museum, Sculpture at Goodwood, Yorkshire Sculpture Part in United Kingdom, And Hakone Open Air Museum and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan.

Prof Mistry was elected member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 1993. He also elected to for the Asian artist, on returns to Vadodara in 1998. He was selected for the millennium medal competition in London.
