Kokarnag SHO, 5 cops, civilian
killed in ambush

A day after the central government extended the ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir till May-end, a police vehicle was attacked by terrorists near Danwatpura village in Anantnag district on Friday afternoon.

Police said the terrorists exploded a bomb and followed it with heavy firing on the vehicle resulting in the death of Station House Officer Abdul Rashid and five of his police guards. All of them were attached to the Kokarnag police station

A by-stander was also killed in the incident while one injured policeman has been admitted to a hospital in Srinagar.

Before fleeing from the spot, the terrorists took two AK-47s, four SLRs and a wireless set from the damaged vehicle.
