Two dead in Bombay High fire

An employee of a private firm died of possible suffocation following a fire at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's BHF cellar deck connected to BHN platform in the Bombay High fields while another worker died due to heart attack while being evacuated to safety.

The fire took place at 7.05 pm on Wednesday and was extinguished after three hours by five fire fighting vessels, ONGC spokesman said in a release in Bombay Thursday.

An employee of power utility BSES, who was carrying out the repair work, suffered a heart attack during evacuation and died while being transported to the city by helicopter from Bombay High.

The platform was under major upgradation, ONGC sources said adding it had not affected the production of oil and gas.

He said all personnel working on the platform were evacuated to safety. However, Dilip Kadu, an employee of M/s Das Offshore was missing, his body was found in the switch gear room of BHF at 8 am Thursday.
