Sikkim cut-off for third day: PTI

Sikkim remained cut-off from the rest of the country for the third day on Tuesday, following the indefinite strike by the Gorkha National Liberation Front in three hill sub-divisions of Darjeeling district to protest against the attack on their leader Subhas Ghisingh.

Movement of vehicular traffic along the NH-31 A was 'completely' stopped following tension, officials said.

The government took stock of the situation at a high-level meeting attended by the state tourism minister, transport minister, chief secretary, director general of police and tourism secretary.

Hindrance in movement of traffic has also affected postal deliveries in the state capital as mailbags to and from Siliguri could not be received and despatched, according to sources in the head post office.

Newspapers were also not available.

The NH-31 A, the only lifeline of Sikkim which connects the state with the rest of the country, passes through the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council area.
