Former Bihar minister Lalit Yadav surrenders

Our Correspondent in Patna

Former Bihar minister Lalit Yadav surrendered before the civil court in Patna on Tuesday afternoon.

Yadav is the main accused in a case of torture and illegal confinement of Dalit truck driver, Dinanath Baitha.

Lalit Yadav was absconding since July 8 when a television channel broke the story of how Baitha was beaten up and confined to the cow shed in the minister's bungalow for several days.

Yadav was dismissed from the Rabri Devi government and expelled from the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal immediately after an FIR was lodged against him.

Another former Bihar minister, Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav, also surrendered in the court today. He was involved in the B.ED examination scam and was absconding since April 2000.
