Vajpayee cancels trip to Malaysia and Japan

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has cancelled his weeklong trip to Malaysia and Japan in view of the earthquake in Gujarat.

The prime minister took the decision after consulting External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, who is in Cairo, a spokesman of his office said on Saturday.

Vajpayee has instructed Foreign Secretary Lalit Mansingh to inform the governments of both Malaysia and Japan of his inability at this juncture to undertake the trip.
