Panun Kashmir to send
doctors to Gujarat

A Correspondent in New Delhi

Panun Kashmir will send a team of doctors, headed by Dr Ajay Chringoo, a senior leader of the organisation, to quake-hit Gujarat.

Ramesh Razdan, secretary of Panun Kashmir, an organisation of displaced Kashmiris, said, "We are just trying our bit to contribute towards reducing the pain of a suffering people, so the focus is on providing medical assistance."

"Panun Kashmir will contribute to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and we appeal to all Kashmiris to come forward and help victims of the earthquake to the best of their ability. Kashmiris know what pain, suffering and displacement means," Razdan told rediff.com.

"Our volunteers have been donating blood to various organisations for the earthquake victims," he added.

Despite being poles apart on the ideological front, Panun Kashmir commended the organisation of a blood donation camp for quake victims by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, a pro-freedom group operating in Kashmir.

"We think it is a great humanitarian gesture," said the Panun Kashmir leader.

"The government should take immediate steps to gear up the relief machinery and concrete steps should be devised for the rehabilitation of the people who are homeless now," he said.

"In fact, a lesson should have been learnt from the monumental tragedy of the displacement of many Kashmiris in the last decade, in which case proper rehabilitation measures were not in place," he added.
