City Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Gupta told reporters that the arrested people had reached the city to attend a meeting and that they belonged to different parts of the country. They have been arrested under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act, he added.
He said literature on Saudi extremist Osama bin Laden, the Babri mosque, SIMI admission forms, mobile phones and cassettes were also recovered from the place.
However, former president of city unit of SIMI Sajith Gulam Manzoori, who had made arrangements for the stay and meeting is still at large, he said.
The meeting had been arranged under the aegis of the All India Minority Education Board, ostensibly for discussing educational matters, he said.
Police would investigate the reason for organising such a secret meeting, Gupta added.
