Bihar minister Sanjay Singh resigns

Bihar minister Sanjay Singh on Friday resigned from the Rabri Devi ministry a day after his name figured in the case relating to killing of nine Rashtriya Janata Dal workers, including the party's Sheikhpura district President Kashi Yadav, on Wednesday.

Singh handed over his resignation to Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president Shakeel Ahmed at Sadaquat Ashram, the state party headquarters, requesting him to forward it to Chief Minister Rabri Devi after duly considering his submission.

Singh, along with his father and Congress MP Rajo Singh and six others, have been named as accused in the case on the basis of a complaint lodged by Muneshwar Prasad, Ariari block President of RJD.

Sheikhpura RJD chief Kashi Yadav was among the nine party activists killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them near Tatipul when they were returning to Sheikhpura from Barbigha after attending the district board meeting.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi has accepted the resignation of Sanjay Singh.

An official spokesman said that the minister in his one-line resignation letter had said he was resigning in accordance with the highest traditions of the Congress party since his name had figured in the case.

The chief minister has forwarded Singh's letter to the governor for acceptance.
